Well it seems like spring is upon us yet maybe still a little premature. Went out for a crack at fisherman’s Rock off the west coast of Wellington. The Grouper have been in good shape there the past couple of months as they gather prior to spawning and put on some beef. It is always a bit of a gamble as they can bugger off at any moment to spawn and we won’t see them again for a couple of months.
Any how it was a beautiful day and I was on the boat with some good mates so can’t complain. We picked the tides pretty well and it was just approaching slack water as we prepared to drop. 150 meters and bombs away. A few bites but we could tell we had scarpies on so left them down as live bait….. still no action so pulled up and headed to another spot. No joy again! We motored around looking at the sounder for some sign and found some good structure with fish showing around it in 250m. The call was made and we had a drop. After about 30 seconds I hooked up solid and the fish took a bit of line before I got stuck in and did the long haul to the surface. Check out the vid to see what came up
That is fishing sometimes – I love it!
